How to Make a Staging Copy of Your WordPress Site Print

  • 0

A staging site is a private copy of your website where you can test changes, like a new theme or a big update, without affecting your live site.

Creating a Staging Copy

  1. Log in to cPanel (see How to Log In to cPanel)
  2. Open Softaculous Apps Installer
  3. Click Installations (the box icon at the top)
  4. Click the Create Staging icon next to your site
  5. Choose where the copy goes, for example a folder called staging on your domain
  6. Click Create Staging

Your staging site will be at an address like https://yourdomain.com.au/staging.

Pushing Changes Live

When you're happy with your changes:

  1. Go back to Installations in Softaculous
  2. Click the Push to Live icon next to the staging copy
  3. Choose what to push, then confirm
Pushing to live replaces your live site. If people have placed orders or left comments on the live site since you made the copy, choose your push options carefully so you don't lose them. Softaculous makes a backup first, but if you're unsure, ask us.
