A WHOIS lookup shows who a domain is registered with, when it expires and which nameservers it uses. It's useful when you're not sure where your domain is managed.
Looking Up a Domain
- .au domains (.com.au, .net.au, .au): use whois.auda.org.au
- Other domains (.com, .net and so on): use lookup.icann.org
Enter the domain and search.
What You'll See
- Registrar: the company the domain is registered with. This is who you log in to for nameserver changes and renewals
- Status: for example "ok" or "clientTransferProhibited", which means the domain is locked against transfers
- Expiry date: not shown for .au domains
- Name servers: where the domain's DNS is managed
- Registrant: for .au domains, the business or person who holds the licence
