How to Change Your Nameservers Print

  • 0

Nameservers connect your domain name to your hosting. To make your website and email work with AISweb hosting, your domain needs to use our nameservers.

AISweb Nameservers

Use all four of these for every domain hosted with AISweb:

  • ns1.aisweb.com.au
  • ns2.aisweb.com.au
  • ns3.aisweb.com.au
  • ns4.aisweb.com.au
If your registrar only gives you two boxes, enter ns1.aisweb.com.au and ns2.aisweb.com.au. Add ns3 and ns4 if it lets you add more.

Before You Start

  • It takes time: nameserver changes can take up to 48 hours to reach everyone, though it's usually much quicker
  • You need registrar access: you'll need to log in to wherever your domain is registered
  • Check your email first: if you already use email on this domain, make sure your email accounts or MX records are set up in cPanel before you switch. See How to Manage DNS Records in cPanel
  • Expect a short changeover: some visitors may see your old site for a little while

If Your Domain Is Registered With AISweb

  1. Log in to the Client Area
  2. Click Domains in the top menu, then My Domains
  3. Click the domain you want to change
  4. Click Nameservers
  5. Choose Use custom nameservers and enter the four AISweb nameservers above
  6. Click Change Nameservers

If Your Domain Is Registered Somewhere Else

Step 1: Find Your Registrar

Your registrar is the company you bought the domain from, such as Crazy Domains, VentraIP, GoDaddy or Namecheap. If you're not sure, look the domain up at whois.auda.org.au for .au domains or lookup.icann.org for other domains.

Step 2: Log In and Find the Nameserver Settings

  1. Log in to your registrar's website
  2. Open your list of domains and select the one you want to change
  3. Look for a section called Nameservers, DNS Settings or Name Server Settings

Step 3: Enter the AISweb Nameservers

  1. Choose the option for custom nameservers or custom DNS
  2. Remove the existing nameservers
  3. Enter ns1.aisweb.com.au, ns2.aisweb.com.au, ns3.aisweb.com.au and ns4.aisweb.com.au
  4. Save your changes

  3. When you see the AISweb nameservers listed around the world, the change is working

While the Change Spreads

Changes don't reach everyone at once, because internet providers keep a copy of the old details for a while. During this time:

  • Some people may see your old site and others your new one
  • Email may be briefly delayed
  • This is normal and sorts itself out, usually within a few hours and always within 48

Once the Change Is Complete

Troubleshooting

The Change Isn't Showing

  • Check for typos in the nameservers
  • Make sure you saved the change at your registrar
  • Allow the full 48 hours
  • Clear your browser cache

The Domain Is Locked

Some registrars won't let you change nameservers while a lock is on. Turn off the registrar lock in your registrar's control panel, make the change, then turn the lock back on.

Email Stopped Working

If your email was hosted somewhere else, either create your email accounts in cPanel, or point your MX records back to your email provider. See How to Use Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace Email With Your Domain.

When You Don't Need to Change Nameservers

You may not need to change nameservers if you want to keep your DNS with another provider, such as Cloudflare. In that case we can give you the records to add there instead. Contact our support team and we'll help.
