.au domains (including .com.au, .net.au and the shorter .au) are only available to people and organisations with an Australian connection. Here's what you need.
Who Can Register a .au Domain?
You'll need one of these:
- An Australian business with an ABN, ACN or registered business name
- An Australian citizen or permanent resident
- An organisation registered in Australia, such as an incorporated association or charity
- An Australian trademark, or a trademark application, that matches the domain name
Does the Name Have to Match My Business?
For .com.au and .net.au: yes, the domain must either match your business name or trademark, or be closely and substantially connected to what you do (for example a product you sell or a service you offer).
For .au (direct, like yourname.au): the name doesn't have to match, as long as you have an Australian connection.
What We'll Ask For
When you order a .au domain, we'll ask for your ABN, ACN or other ID, and the registrant name exactly as it appears on that record. Please double-check these, as they can't easily be changed later.
Keep Your Details Current
The .au registry (auDA) can check eligibility at any time. If your ABN is cancelled or your business changes, update the domain or contact us, otherwise the domain could be suspended. See How to Update Your Domain Contact Details.
Not sure if you're eligible? Ask our sales team before you order.
