How to Password-Protect a Folder Print

Directory Privacy adds a password prompt to any folder on your website. It's handy for staging sites, private downloads or admin areas.

Protecting a Folder

1. Log in to cPanel (see How to Log In to cPanel)
2. In the Files section, click Directory Privacy
3. Click the folder name to open it, or click Edit next to the folder you want to protect
4. Tick Password protect this directory
5. Enter a name for the area, for example "Staging", and click Save
6. Click Go Back, then under Create User enter a username and password
7. Click Save

Anyone visiting that folder now has to enter the username and password.

Removing Protection

Go back to the folder in Directory Privacy, untick Password protect this directory and click Save.
