Scammers sometimes send emails pretending to be your hosting company, to trick you into giving them your password or card details. Here's how to tell the difference.
Things We Will Never Do
- Ask for your password by email, phone or chat
- Ask for your full card number by email
- Send you a link to "verify" your account to stop it being deleted
- Threaten to delete your website or email within hours unless you click a link
Warning Signs
- The sender's address: check the real address, not just the name. Our emails come from @aisweb.com.au
- Links that go somewhere else: hover over a link (or press and hold on a phone) to see where it really goes. Our Client Area is always at secure.aisweb.com.au
- Urgency: "your mailbox will be deleted today" or "payment failed, act now"
- Generic greetings like "Dear user" or "Dear customer"
- "Your mailbox is full, log in here" emails with a link to a login page. These are very common
If You're Not Sure
Don't click the link. Go to https://secure.aisweb.com.au yourself by typing it in, and check for unpaid invoices or messages there. Or forward the email to support@aisweb.com.au and ask us.
If You've Already Clicked and Entered Details
- Change the password straight away, for your email account, Client Area or cPanel. See How to Change an Email Account Password
- If you entered card details, call your bank
- Contact our support team so we can check your account
- Check your email forwarders and filters for anything you didn't set up
